How to Write a Job Ad That Attracts the Right Candidates (Instead of Driving Them Away)

If your job ads aren’t bringing in the right candidates—or any at all—you’re not alone. Most clinics treat job descriptions like legal paperwork: stiff, vague, and painfully boring. But here’s the truth…

A job ad isn’t just an HR form. It’s a sales pitch.

You’re not just trying to fill a position. You’re trying to attract the right person and get them excited to apply. And in today’s competitive market, that means your ad needs to work harder.

Here are five key elements every job description needs if you want to attract strong candidates—especially in healthcare, wellness, and hormone therapy clinics.

1. Use a Clear, Searchable Job Title

Avoid jargon. Avoid cute internal language. Be direct.

No one’s searching for “Clinical Operations Associate II.” Call it what it is:
“Medical Assistant – Full-Time (BHRT Clinic)” or “Patient Liaison – Front Desk.”

Your job title is a hook. Make sure the right people recognize it immediately.

2. Write a Compelling Introduction

The first few lines should tell the candidate who you are, what your clinic does, and why this role matters. This is your chance to speak directly to your ideal hire.

Example:

We’re a fast-growing hormone and wellness clinic helping men and women feel like themselves again. We’re looking for a Medical Assistant who loves patient care, thrives in a fast-paced setting, and wants to grow with a high-performing team.

Make them feel like they’re joining something exciting—not just clocking in.

3. Be Honest and Specific About the Work

Skip the buzzwords like “must be a team player” or “detail-oriented.” Instead, give candidates a clear picture of their day-to-day responsibilities.

Bullet points work great here:

  • Assist providers during in-room procedures
  • Manage and restock clinical inventory
  • Handle patient follow-up calls and lab result communication
  • Prep treatment rooms between appointments

If they can see it, they can decide if it’s for them—and that’s a good thing.

4. List Must-Haves (Not Just Nice-to-Haves)

This is your filter. List the non-negotiables clearly so candidates can self-select.

For example:

  • MA certification or 1+ year clinical experience
  • Available Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM
  • In-person availability
  • Fluent in English (Spanish a plus)

If there are “bonus” skills that would be nice, create a separate section for them—just don’t mix them with your essentials.

5. Be Transparent About Pay and Perks

People appreciate honesty. Even a pay range is better than nothing.

Include the compensation and any meaningful perks:

  • $18–22/hr depending on experience
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • In-house treatment discounts
  • Performance-based bonuses
  • Growth opportunities or continuing education support

And don’t forget to tell them why people like working at your clinic. That’s part of the value, too.

Final Thoughts

If you want to hire better, you have to start earlier in the process—and that means writing job descriptions that connect.

To recap:

  • Use clear, searchable titles
  • Lead with a compelling intro
  • Be specific about responsibilities
  • Share must-have qualifications
  • Be open about compensation and perks

Do that, and your job ad won’t just be a list of duties—it’ll be a magnet for the people you actually want on your team.
